The Albanian royal family went into exile in April 1939 when Mussilini's fascist troops invaded and occupied Albania. They trekked through eastern Europe to Scandinavia until they settled in France in late 1939. They remained in Paris until France was occupied by the Nazis in June 1940, when the Albanians fled on board a British ship that brought them to England. In 1946 King Zog and his family lefft for Egypt where they lived until 1955, when they returned to France, where King Zog died in 1961.
